“I was born profoundly deaf and wore hearing aids in both ears before I turned one. My mom heard about cochlear implants coming into the market in the early 80’s in LA. In 1998, my speech therapist encouraged me to re-consider. I was old enough (age 10) to decide and move forward to be part of the first generation with Advanced Bionics. My audiologists Jan Larky, Sarah Ashburn-Reed and Dr. Anil K. Lalwani in San Francisco were great influences and made me feel comfortable with the whole process.
